Town of Culture Bid 2028
Blaenavon Town Council is exploring the possibility of submitting a bid for Blaenavon to become UK Town of Culture 2028.
The UK Town of Culture programme is a national competition run by the UK Government.
It awards one town the opportunity to deliver a year-long cultural programme, supported by £3 million of funding, with the aim of boosting local pride, participation, visitor numbers and long-term regeneration through culture.
As part of this process, Blaenavon Town Council is pleased to confirm that an Expression of Interest, the next stage of the application, has now been submitted. Further updates will be shared as the process progresses.
Unfortunately, Blaenavon has not been shortlisted for the next stage of the UK Town of Culture 2028 competition.
Only two Welsh towns have been shortlisted, Pontypridd and Port Talbot and we wish them both every success as they progress through the next stage.
Blaenavon Town Council would like to thank everyone who supported the Expression of Interest and helped showcase the town’s culture, heritage and community spirit.
