Blaenavon Town Council Hosts Flag-Raising Ceremony to Mark VE Day 80

Blaenavon Town Council proudly held a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, honouring the end of the Second World War in Europe and the enduring legacy of peace and resilience.

The ceremony took place at Blaenavon Cenotaph, where members of the community gathered to witness the symbolic raising of the Union Flag. The Mayor of Blaenavon officiated the event, raising the flag in a moment of solemn reflection and civic pride.

The ceremony served as a visual tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the war, as well as a reminder of the importance of unity and remembrance. Attendees observed a moment of silence as the flag was raised, accompanied by a brief address from the Mayor highlighting the significance of VE Day and the values it represents.

This event formed part of a wider programme of commemorations across Blaenavon, bringing the community together to honour a pivotal moment in history.
