Events

Here you’ll find information about the wide range of events we organise throughout the year – from regular community gatherings to one-off special events. The Town Council is proud to provide activities for all members of the community, helping to improve wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and celebrate Blaenavon’s rich heritage. You’ll also find a timetable of weekly sessions run by local groups and organisations, offering something for everyone to get involved in.

Regular Events

Mums & Daughters Fitness Sessions


Where – Blaenavon Active Living Centre

When – Every Monday 6pm-7pm

A free fitness session for women and girls age 8+ in partnership with Torfaen Health, Sport and Fitness.

These sessions are designed for all fitness abilities and to empower women and girls to feel stronger, more focused, healthier and confident!

Over 60’s Exercise Group

 

Where: Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall

When: Every Wednesday 11am-12pm

A free fitness/ circuit style exercise session for over 60s, focusing on strength and mobility., run in partnership with Torfaen Health, Sport and Fitness.

These sessions can be tailored and adapted for all fitness abilities

Over 60’s Chair Based Strength & Tone

 

Where: Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall

When: Every Friday 10am-11am

A free gentle fitness session for over 60s, focusing on strength and mobility, can also be adapted to include chair based exercises. Run in partnership with Torfaen Health, Sport and Fitness.

Befriending Film Club

 

Where: Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall

When: Last Friday of every month 10.30am

Join us for a free film screening and refreshments, a chance to meet new people and catch up with old friends.

Over 60’s Dance Fitness

 

Where: Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall

When: Every Friday 11am-12pm

A free, low intensity dance session for over 60s, run in partnership with Torfaen Health, Sport and Fitness.

Craft Group

 

Where: Blaenavon Resource Centre

When: Every Monday 1pm-2.30pm

A free weekly craft group run by volunteers, supported by Blaenavon Town Council. Crafts available for all abilities, all materials provided.

Community Litter Pick

 

Where: Various locations throughout Blaenavon

When: 3rd Sunday of every month 10.30am

Each month officers, councillors and members of the community join forces on our community litter pick, focusing on different areas of the town, with all equipment provided. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for each months location.

Food & Wellbeing Camp


Where: Blaenavon Heritage V.C Primary School
When: Tuesday 17th, Wednesday 18th & Thursday 19th February 10:00am – 3:00pm


Blaenavon Town Council are thrilled to be working in partnership with Torfaen Play to bring this amazing provision back to Blaenavon again this year.


For children aged 5 -11, with activities, games and a hot lunch provided daily, completely free of charge.

Scenery, Prop, Puppet, Mask and costume making! The SCENIC ARTS!

Ages 12-18, The Melville Centre, Abergavenny. Sundays 2-5pm, 10 weeks starting Sun Jan 18th.

£5 per session, bursaries available for low incomes. Please ask.

This class is focussed on learning how to build and make fantastic things for Theatre, Film and TV. We’ll teach you how to use junk and recyclable materials as a base; willow framework to make creatures; papier mache and EVA foam for puppets, masks and cosplay.

We’ll also look at basic carpentry, scenery building techniques, useful tools and materials that you can use to build up your skills. We’ll help kickstart you on a career in scenic production, design and construction for the performing arts.

Led by professional prop, scenery and puppet makers, Stuart H/ Bawler and Rhianna Yates of Hummadruz, the Black-Light Theatre of Wales.

Supported by Creative Futures

The Abergavenny Steam Rally is held every year on the last Bank Holiday in May. It is a great day out for the whole family at Bailey Park, Abergavenny.

This two-day event offers something for the whole family. As well as the mighty giants of steam and vintage vehicles, the show has a children’s funfair, a food village, rural crafts and handicrafts and a wealth of stands selling everything from auto jumble to garden plants and a lot of other stuff in-between.

St Fagans Trip

Where: St Fagans National History Museum

When: Monday 11th August

Blaenavon Town Council will be running a free trip to St Fagans for Blaenavon residents, with the opportunity to take part in the Coed Lan high ropes course.

The coach will be leaving from outside Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall at 9.30am and returning around 4pm.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Residents who were unable to secure a space on last year’s trip will be given priority.

Please note, there is no requirement to take part in the high ropes course, residents are welcome to attend without participating in this.

VJ Day 80 – FREE Community Event!

Free Community Swimming at Pontypool Active Living Centre!

In partnership with Halo we are pleased to offer a free swim and slides session for ALL Blaenavon residents.

Coach pick up from Workmen’s Hall @ 11.20am

Learner pool for baby & toddler session also available. Children under 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult however children over 8 are permitted in the pool without an adult.

Booking is essential as spaces are limited.
