The Town Council is inviting applications from interested candidates to fill a vacancy we have - please see the notice here.
As none of the local political parties has decided to field a candidate and there have not been any signed letters requesting an election, the Council will be co-opting on a new member.
If you have the time and commitment to come along and contribute to our plans to make the town an even better place to live in, please see a description of the competencies here and the application form here.
“We know that Blaenavon is full of residents passionate about their town and we’re pleased that 11 of those people are currently sitting in the Council Chamber,” said Mayor Cllr Jac Denley-Jones.
“We’re looking for someone with a sound knowledge and understanding of local affairs and the local community,” she added. “They should also be a good team player who is forward thinking and wants to help the Council to continue to make good progress with our plans.”
Cllr Denley-Jones said the Council’s current composition included people from backgrounds such as lecturing and teaching, nursing and NHS management, law, journalism, public administration, the armed forces, business development, catering and hospitality, heavy industry and shopkeeping/trading.
“We have a diverse range of occupations and former professions here and we’re hoping for someone who can bring a new skill, expertise or key local knowledge such as experience of working with voluntary and or local interest groups,” she added.
