Today’s Intergenerational Group project meeting ‘Photographs and Memories’ saw a great turnout and a happy afternoon spent reminiscing at the Workmen's Hall.
Senior citizens and young people alike enjoyed their experience of sharing memories and learning things they never knew about Blaenavon.
The Town Council’s ‘Artist in Residence’, Jon Pountney, was delighted with the public’s response, wealth of old photos and enthusiasm for the day.
The aim of the Intergenerational Group is to bring old and young together and to break down some of the barriers which exist between generations, while also supporting members of the community who may be experiencing or living with dementia.
The project is being funded by Blaenavon Town Council and the Paul Hamlyn Fund, which aims to transforms museums in the community, in partnership with Big Pit, Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales and the Hwb youth group in town.
Each monthly group will have a different theme and people of all ages are encouraged to come along to share their experiences and memories, to maybe learn something new or simply just for a cup of tea and a natter.
Please come to our future meetings:
22 August: Arts and Crafts
26 September: Age Positivi-tea Party
24 October: Past, Present and Future
21 November: Remembrance
12 December: Christmas Party
