Blaenavon’s hugely successful Busy Bees Day Nursery and Kids' Club is about to undergo a major refurbishment, with help from the Town Council.
A Grant of £3,000 allowed Busy Bees to apply for matchfunding of £48,000 from Welsh Government’s Rural Development Fund to upgrade its facilities at the former Weslyan Chapel Day School in Park Street.
The staged refurbishment of the building will see facelifts for the kitchen and bathroom areas, an upgraded heating system, to create an upstairs space for extra staff toilets, laundry and storage, a child-size disabled toilets access cubicle and the purchase of a minibus.
The premises, which was built in 1874, is a community hub and also home to Blaenavon’s scouts, beavers, cubs and guides and Blaenavon Male Voice.
“The management board, staff and families of Busy Bees would like to thank Blaenavon Town Council for their generous contribution to our matchfunding," said Busy Bees Group Manager and Senior Play Leader Sue Driscoll.
“The work we will be able to do to upgrade aspects of the building will ensure that we can serve the families of Blaenavon for many more years to come.”
Mayor Cllr Gareth Davies said: “The Council is very proud of Busy Bees’ achievements in the almost 30 years since they began. We’re more than happy to support a fantastic facility that is making life easier and more enjoyable for the families of the town.”
