Education: Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School; Ebbw Vale College of Further Education; Allt yr yn College, Newport; National Police Training College, Cwmbran; National Detective Training School, Birmingham.
Work: Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship with British Steel. Left job as engineer to pursue new career as a police officer with Gwent Police and fulfil aspiration of becoming a Detective. Appointed Detective Constable in 1996 and worked all across the Gwent area during nine years in post. Retired from Gwent Police in 2016 after 27 years’ service and holding ranks at Sergeant, Inspector and Chief Inspector. In June 2017, commenced new role as Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer with Blaenavon Town Council - ‘a role that I am privileged to hold to serve the community of Blaenavon’.
Family: Lives in Cwmbran with daughter Megan, 17.
Hobbies/interests: Former Chair of Governors at Croesyceiliog Primary School and Chair of Thornhill Communities First Partnership Board. Hobbies include cooking and wine, local history, classic cars and politics.
Achievements: I’m proud of my leadership/management qualifications and becoming a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, which reflects my achievements with Gwent Police from a strategic perspective. Also becoming a parent and serving the public of Gwent as a police officer.
What do you think is the best thing about working in Blaenavon? “Having worked in Blaenavon for two years in May 2019, the best thing about the town is its community spirit and industrial heritage, not to mention its outstanding landscapes and natural beauty.”
